A branch of learning; body knowledge

This exhibition presents a selection of works of art from the permanent collection

of Maastricht University. With these works of art, ways of looking at people and

the human body are highlighted. Once, art had a strong bond with medical science

because an artist was able to portray the human body as true to nature. Doctors,

scientists and artists learned from each other. Over the centuries the focus has

been reduced to everyone’s own domain. The works of art shown challenge you as a

student or scientist once again to tread in the steps of an artist. This is also a branch

of learning. At the same time, the works of art emphasize topics such as perception,

styles of art, technology and use of materials.
