dataflow of students II of the faculty of Science and Engineering

On the fourth floor of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), you can once again admire a magnificent work of light art by Jules Sinsel. This is Sinsel's second work in which he uses part of the history and future of the faculty in the academic years 2015/2016 to 2024/2025. Each light object represents a year, and each light line represents the number of students enrolled in the master's or bachelor's programme at FSE. His first work for the faculty, which can be seen in the stairway of the Paul hHenry Spaak building, also visualizes this data, but in an entirely different and surprising way,

Jules Sinsel seeks with this data visualization the connection between data and art. Usually, data science can be regarded as a sober, scientific discipline that does not necessarily allow for the creative freedom that artists are known for. For most people who use data visualization are mainly concerned with information graphics created for reporting purposes. For Jules Sinsel, data art is defined by aesthetic forms, geometric shapes, mathematical patterns with the aim of eliciting an emotional response, exploring the artistic translation of the data in various ways. In this way the use of data in art gives a special value and meaning to the viewer.

10 objects:  150 high, 35 wide and 25 deep, made of plywood, plexiglass and felt equipped with  a controlled LED installation that can vary the range of colours,
