FHML - UNS60
Universiteitssingel 60 is part of the so-called Medizinische Kleinstadt (‘medical city’), an urban development plan by Ungers/Von Brandt. In this plan, the new buildings for this area are linked to each other and designed in harmony with their immediate environment. The linked buildings form a kind of city wall that serves to protect, as it were, the medical city behind it. This original concept was elaborated by Architecten aan de Maas (AadM). The building at Universiteitssingel 60 was added to the Randwyck campus as the third major structure of the ‘city wall’ in 2005. Like the other buildings, this is a rectangular six-story building, but it differs from the other ones in its stucco front. The architects integrated an already existing element of the landscape, the row of chestnut trees, into the new environment at the building’s east side. This allows users of the building to experience more strongly the changes that come with the seasons.
