Scientist Els Geelen commisioned the help of visual artist and designer Pim Tabak for the cover of her dissertation ‘Making genetics not so important, families dealing with genetic testing for a familial heart disease’.
Aside from the cover design of this dissertation the artist created a second dissertation.
Guided by the manuscript that Els was working on, Pim embarked on a visual journey of exploration and on the way made a series of artistic images in permanent ink on paper, one of which was used for the cover design of Els’s dissertation. Forty-one of these images were included in a booklet entitled ‘PROEFSCHRIFT, verbeeldingen naar aanleiding van een proefschrift’ (DISSERTATION, images on the occasion of a dissertation).
Thirty-one of these artistic images are on display in the foyer of the administrative building at the Minderbroedersberg, as well as both dissertations.
This exhibition provides a closer look at a remarkable dialogue between art and science.
