The exhibition which has been travelling the world since 2016, portrays thirteen female mathematicians working at various European research institutions. The project explores their experiences, their drive and their love for mathematics.
The international exhibition will be shown in full. However, there is no shortage of mathematicians at Maastricht University either. The extended exhibition shown in Maastricht features two extra portraits of some of UM’s women in mathematics.
Artist Jules Sinsel installs a custom-made, math-inspired 3D art object for the occasion. Jules: “My goal is to work from multiple perspectives by exploring and designing. It’s something that instils curiosity in people and appeals to them. For this, I use patterns, order and symmetry, which can be repeated in shape and colour. These aspects also constantly echo in science and nature. Is that why it attracts us?”
